Repax for a Reason

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Here at Repax Reusable Bags, we are committed to helping save the environment by eliminating the usage of plastic bags and replacing them with “green” reusable ones. But that is not all we believe in! We are excited to announce our collaboration with three worthy and distinctive charities we not only believe in but have pledged to support. With every purchase of a Repax Reusable Bag made, you are helping to make a difference too.

A portion of profits from our Confetti Pink bags will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, a charity that supports breast cancer research. When you choose to buy a Mango Orange bag, the America Red Cross will receive a portion of the profits to help with their ongoing support for worldwide disaster. And when you purchase our Lagoon Blue bags, we will donate a portion of the profits to the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) to help with their ongoing commitment to protect the threatened marshlands of coastal Louisiana.

As Louisiana natives, the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program charity is especially close to our hearts as the Gulf Oil Spill continues to threaten our coast. The goal of the BTNEP is to keep our Louisiana marshlands safe by working to prevent all activities that threaten an estuary’s public water supply, are harmful to shellfish, fish and wildlife populations, and negatively impact recreational opportunities for estuary residents. At present, BTNEP is actively involved in efforts to safe-guard our precious wetlands from the tragedy that is the oil spill and here at Repax we are determined to help.

When you buy Repax Reusable Bags, you are not only helping save the environment but are supporting a cause you believe in, whichever one that may be. Please visit Repax.com today to assist us in helping these worthy causes. It just takes one purchase to make a lifetime of difference.

Happy Earth Day!

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Repax Reusable Bags celebrated Earth Day at Whole Foods Arabella Station which is in Uptown New Orleans.  Our “Bag Lady” came along to spread the word about harmful plastic bags and gave out coupons for Repax Reusable Bags. Our “Bag Lady” is made with about 200 plastic bags, which is about 3 months of grocery shopping for the average family. The kids had a great time learning about using reusable bags and making Earth Day pins to wear while the parents shopped.  It was nice to visit with out of towners who were in New Orleans for Jazz Fest which started today.

2010 Art in Bloom a Big Success!

Monday, April 12th, 2010

The 22nd annual Art in Bloom celebration was held March 24 – March 28 at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Congratulations to Co-Chairs Karen Gundlach and Elly Lane for putting together such a successful event! Repax was  pleased to donate 200 bright pink reusable shopping bags to the festivities. The bags were given out at the Art in Bloom luncheon on March 25th. Because the luncheon (and all of the programs and events) were so well attended, flowers were randomly placed under the plates of 200 luncheon attendees. Those that had a flower received a Repax bag. This year’s theme was eco-friendly practices for businesses, homes and lifestyles so reusable shopping bags were a great fit! Art in Bloom is a joint project of the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Garden Study Club of New Orleans. Proceeds benefit the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the New Orleans Botanical Gardens at City Park, the Restoration of the Gardens of Project Lazarus, Beauregard-Keyes House, Parkway Partners, Longvue House and Gardens and the Hermann-Grima Gallier House.

Did you know that Louisiana has been a leader in the “Green” movement for 20 years?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Louisiana’s nationally recognized Christmas Tree Recycling program is in full swing for the 20th year. 750,000 Christmas trees have been recycled since 1991 and placed along the fastest-eroding areas of Louisiana’s coast. The trees help protect important wetlands which act as barriers against hurricane surges and provide a rich nursery ground for fisheries.   The project creates tree fences which slow wave action, trap sediments and combat erosion.

Christmas trees will be collected in Jefferson and Orleans Parishes January 7th, 8th, & 9th. Although the program is organized by local parishes, it relies heavily on community volunteers.  Trees will be placed beginning this Saturday, Jan. 9th and every Saturday throughout January.   There is a special need for volunteers with shallow draft boats.  For more information please go to http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/01/complete_list_of_christmas_tre.html

Be part of the solution by putting your Christmas tree out for collection or volunteering to help place trees along our coastline.  Make Going Green part of your New Year!
